Writing a fundraiser letter to request support from members of your local community is an art form. Just like all other types of writing, there are certain guidelines and tricks of the trade to follow. It’s important to be forthright in your request for a donation, polite without being overly formal, and be clear and concise. Here is a template fundraising letter requesting community support that you can use as a guideline for your own fundraising letter:
Dear Community Supporter:
I am writing on behalf of the American Ovarian Cancer Society to request a donation for our signature annual fundraiser, Our Race For Life, which will be held the weekend of June 15-16, 2014 at Smith Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Our Race For Life is a family-oriented event that offers participants the chance to walk or run as part of a relay for 15 hours in individual segments. On the night before, participant’s camp around the track, and when they are not taking their turn running, they participate in other fun, organized activities. Both current cancer patients and cancer survivors, their friends and family members, and the public are all invited to take part in this exciting event.
The team that I am on consists of corporations, organizations, families and friends. The event is very long and exhausting, so we are looking for support from local businesses to donate to our team. We are requesting food and snacks, water and drinks, and gift certificates to use as prizes to make the event fun, enticing, and rewarding.
This year, we believe that there will be more than 600 participants ranging from children to adults ages 50 and up. Cancer touches so many families in our community and Our Race For Life is a great way to help combat this terrible disease. We would love for you to consider donating to our cause and inviting your friends and neighbors to join our event.
