When it comes to fundraising, securing new donors is only half the battle—keeping those donors and having good relationships is the other half. In terms of giving, a little ‘thank you’ goes a long way with people so it’s important to take the time to thank your donors when they’ve given to your cause. Perhaps one of the best ways to do this is to craft a ‘thank you for your donation letter’. When writing a thank you letter to donors, it’s important of course to show gratitude, but it’s equally important for you to give your donors some examples of how their donations will be used. Including images and individual stories can also be a great way to acknowledge their gift to your charity. Also, you want to keep the lines of communication open with your donors, so encourage them to follow your organizations’ website, Facebook page or newsletters—whatever tool your charity uses to keep in touch with donors.
Here is a sample thank you letter that you can use to create your own:
Dear (formal salutation),
On behalf of (Your Charity Name), I would like to personally thank you for your generosity in supporting our organization. Your financial support gives us the opportunity to continue doing the good work that we do. Our supporters help us continue to grow our organization while we reach out to the communities that we serve.
Your generous donation will help us fund the following projects this year (name some specific things that your organization plans to do in the upcoming year). We are grateful for your continued support and hope to see you at our upcoming (name of event open to donors). We’d love to stay in touch with you, so please follow our (newsletter, blog, website, Facebook page). Thank you again for your support!
