If you’re hosting a food drive, sending out a letter beforehand as a call to action can be a great way to generate excitement about the event and get people to participate. The more advanced notice people have, the more time they have to go through their pantry’s and hit the grocery store to help your cause. Here is a sample donation letter for a food drive that can be tailored to fit your organization:
Summer is a time for family, fun, and the sounds of children’s laughter. Sadly this year, summer will be a sad occasion for many families in our community who have fallen on hard times and can’t feed their family. That is why Our Charity is hosting our annual Summer Fun Food Drive.
This annual event combines fellowship and fun for a day of giving and raising awareness of the greater need for resources in our community. We are sending this letter as an invitation for you to join us on Saturday July 25th at 2 pm in the afternoon at the Green Pavilion located in downtown (more information available on the website).
This event includes a lot of fun things like a carnival for kids, hot dogs and refreshments, and family games and entertainment. The event is $5 per person with all proceeds going towards our food pantry which has helped countless families in the Houston area. We will also be having a used book sale and vendors will be selling their wares for charity during the event.
We are also encouraging friends and family to purchase a pre-packaged bag of groceries during the event for $10, or we are accepting donations of non-perishable items for the food bank. We will also accept cash gifts to be used to purchase food for families in need.
If you are interested in donating food but you can’t attend the event, please visit our website at (insert website). We hope to see you at the big event and thank you for your donations!
